The Blacksmith Vin Noir 2015
By Christian Eedes, 24 September 2016
Tremayne Smith, who had a stint at Mullineux & Leeu before moving to Fable Mountain Vineyards, also makes his own wines under The Blacksmith label.
Tasting notes and scores for the current releases as follows:
The Blacksmith Chenin Blanc 2015
Wine Cellar price: R155
Appears both reductive AND oxidative – a bit stinky on the nose before notes of peach, bruised apple and bread. Rich and broad on the palate. A rustic but not unpleasant offering.
#WinemagRating: 88/100.
The Blacksmith Vin Noir 2015
Wine Cellar price: R165
42% Carignan, 29% Cinsault, 29% Grenache. A hint of floral perfume before red and black fruit plus a little spice. Medium bodied with tangy acidity and soft tannins. Very likeable if not hugely complex.
#WinemagRating: 89/100.
