Trizanne Signature Wine Alternative Range new releases

By , 23 September 2020

The so-called “Alternative Range” from Trizanne Signature Wines allows winemaker Trizanne Barnard to make small batches of wines from vineyards she finds particularly interesting, tasting notes and ratings for the new releases as follows:

TSW Elim Semillon 2018
Price: R315
Spontaneous fermentation followed by maturation lasting 16 months in 300- and 500-litre barrels. Aromatics of blackcurrant, lime and lemon, peach, the merest hint of hay plus some waxy complexity. The palate has very good depth of fruit and well-integrated acidity – rich, broad and pleasantly smooth textured, it shows both balance and detail. Total production: 1 380 bottles.

CE’s rating: 93/100.

TSW Darling Barbera 2018
Price: R225
Fermented and matured for 11 months in old 500-litre barrels. Previous vintages of this wine have been rather too tart and stalky in my opinion but this is entirely charming. Red and blue berries, rose plus an attractive herbal edge to the nose while the palate is light bodied with bright acidity and crunchy tannins, the finish winningly dry – poised and energetic. Alcohol is 12.28%. Total production: 900 bottles.

CE’s rating: 92/100.
