Vergelegen G.V.B. White 2015

Vergelegen was one of the pioneers of Sauv-Sem blends in South Africa, this property’s version always a key reference point when considering the category. Current release is 2015, a blend of 60% Sauvignon Blanc and 40% Semillon, the former fermented in old 500-litre barrels and 25% of the latter in 25% new oak, maturation lasting nine months.
An enticing nose with notes of blossom and herbs before white peach and black currant plus some spice. The palate is rich but beautifully balanced – lovely fruit definition and more freshness than you might expect for a wine with an alcohol of 14.5%. Wine Cellar price: R465 a bottle.
Editor’s rating: 91/100.

Love this wine.. and build to last. Enjoyed a 2013 last week – want to properly age the rest of the stock though.
