Vergelegen Sauvignon Blanc Reserve 2018

By , 28 March 2020

Hardbody.

From a 2.5 ha vineyard at 320 metres above sea level planted in 1988, this offering from Vergelegen is always striking, the 2018 vintage appearing particularly rich and ripe.

The nose shows citrus, peach and blackcurrant will the palate is full with a creamy texture and a savoury finish.

Winemaking involved spontaneous fermentation and skin contact lasting 48 hours before seven months of maturation in 2 500-litre Austrian oak ovals. Alcohol is 14.28% and it’s a far cry from the light and racy style of this variety that so often prevails.

CE’s rating: 92/100.
