Warwick Cabernet Franc 2013

Coquettish.

Single-variety Cabernet Franc has its devotees but how much to expect from it under local conditions? The 2013 from Warwick in Stellenbosch has aromatics of ripe red fruit and a subtle but definite herbal note. The palate meanwhile is medium bodied with the softest of tannins – there was no post-ferment maceration and the oaking has been deftly done, this involving 24 months in 225-litre barrels, 44% new. It’s a sexy little number but I would suggest stops somewhere short of greatness. Wine Cellar price: R320 a bottle.

#WinemagRating: 90/100.
