Impossible not to like.

Yesterday the unveiling of a new label for the Golden Triangle tier of wines from Stellenzicht in Stellenbosch. The new label by Bravo Design in Milnerton is a rather literal depiction of the name and if nothing else should aid consumer memory.

Wine of the day was the Pinotage 2010, which won gold at this year’s Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show. An interesting approach to barrel maturation with the wine spending 22 months in a combination of 37% French, 39% American, 10% Hungarian and 14% other Eastern European oak. Intense black in colour, it has great fruit expression – red and black cherries – bright acidity and pleasantly firm tannins. Perhaps not a wine of great complexity but delicious all the same. Score: 16/20.
