While the wines of David and Nadia Sadie under the David label are quickly becoming established as among the very finest in the land, Sadie is now also winemaker at the Swartland property Paardebosch and it is going to be interesting to see what transpires under his tenure. Over the weekend a look at the current releases:
Paardebosch Chenin Blanc 2014
Approximate retail price: R135
Peach and subtle oxidative notes, zippy acidity and a gently savoury finish. Pleasant enough but a bit plain.
Score: 86/100.
Paardebosch Pinotage 2012
Approximate retail price: R135
Red cherry, dried herbs and a subtle earthiness. Medium bodied with fresh acidity and a nicely savoury finish. Really well balanced and food friendly. You have a sense that future vintages could be really exciting when Sadie brings his deft touch to bear.
Score: 87/100.
