The wines of Wellington property Doolhof go relatively unremarked but a chance encounter with the Signatures of Doolhof Single Vineyard Collection Pinotage 2018 (price: R235 a bottle) made for good drinking.
The nose shows red cherry, plums, earth, vanilla and spice while the palate is medium bodied with good fruit definition, fresh acidity and lightly grippy tannins. Understated and yet not without detail, it’s not nearly as brash as some examples of this variety can be.
