The 2021 vintage of The Wolftrap from Boekenhoutskloof delivers terrific quality relative to price. A blend on 80% Syrah, 19% Mourvèdre and 1% Viognier, grapes are largely from the Swartland. The nose shows a top note of floral perfume before red and black berries, pepper and spice while the palate possesses good fruit definition, bright acidity and fine tannins. A residual sugar of 3.1g/l, meanwhile, lends a winning roundness. Price: R60 a bottle.
