McFarlane Thursday’s Child Chenin Blanc 2020
By Christian Eedes, 29 November 2022

Grapes from a Paarl vineyard planted in 1963, winemaking was suitably low-intervention, maturation lasting 11 months in older oak. The nose shows some struck-match reduction before pear and peach and maybe some citrus while the palate has great clarity of fruit, snappy acidity and a saline finish. It’s a remarkably precise wine – refined but not insubstantial with just the right amount of texture. Price: R350 a bottle.
CE’s rating: 96/100.
