Samantha Suddons of Vinevenom, who is building a reputation for wines of both charm and character, recently launched the third version of Silence, her wine from a Paardeberg Chenin Blanc solera begun in 2000 and incorporating all vintages up to 2023, barrels used 400 litres in size, all wine aged under flor.
The nose shows stone fruit, orange, fresh bread, some nuttiness and rancio while the palate is dense with punchy acidity and a salty finish (alc: 13%). A wine that grows in refinement and nuance with each passing release. Price: R210 a bottle.

Thank you Christian, this is definitely my favourite release of Silence thus far. Having grown the solera system now to 26 barrels after the 2024 harvest allows for so many options for blending and complexity!
