Franschhoek brewery wins best beer in Africa – again

Soul Barrel Brewing has claimed Best Beer in Africa at the 2025 African Beer Cup – its third win, and second in a row. Based in Franschhoek, the boutique brewery wowed judges with Wild African Soul, a bold collaboration with Johannesburg’s Tolokazi Beer that fuses umqombothi and farmhouse ale. The barrel-aged brew triumphed over 259 entries from 14 countries.
