Restaurant Mosaic at the Orient outside Pretoria is entering its last season – final service will be dinner on Friday 26 March. Chef Chantel Dartnell opened the establishment in 2006 and it has won many awards since then – most recently placing ninth in the Top 10 at last year’s Eat Out Mercedes-Benz Restaurant Awards. It was also acclaimed for its well-appointed wine cellar. Dartnell’s immediate plans after closing the restaurant include producing a cookbook and enhancing her technical skills. So sad to read and process this news. Chantel and her team are incredibly talented and did not always receive the same hype that some less stellar CT restaurants did. We were lucky enough to dine there a few times and have previous sommelier Jermaine describe the always pristine wine pairing in graphic detail with his natural charm and wit. Wonder what happens now to the wine cellar of over 100,000 bottles…

Indeed. What will happen with the cellar. One of the best in the world and well priced. Maybe some bargains to be looking for.

I’m sure they (Cobus & Chantel) have future plans for a similar venue in an area with better long term prospects.

Wow!!! This extraordinary place Will be dearly missed. And Chantel is an amazing talented person. We had an incredible meal there in January 2020 with a fabulous bottle of Chateau Leoville Las Cases 1998. One of my best restaurant memory.
