Yesterday the announcement that Kayetan Meissner, sommelier at Bosman’s Restaurant at the Grande Roche Hotel in Paarl had won the third annual Bollinger Exceptional Wine Services Award, the other two finalists having been Xolani Mancotywa, sommelier at the Saxon Boutique Hotel in Johannesburg and Barry Scholfield, assistant sommelier at Rust en Vrede Restaurant in Stellenbosch.

Wholesaler Vinimark is the agent for Bollinger and guests attending were able to taste all the Champagnes in the Vinimark and affiliate Wine Worx portfolios, these being Bollinger, Ayala, Gosset and Laurent-Perrier. If you’re feeling flush this festive season, the Bollinger La Grande Année 1999 (approximate retail price per bottle R1 600) is particularly fine while the Laurent Perrier Grand Siècle is also right up there although yet to be launched in South Africa.
