Iona appoints new winemaking team

Marais and Nel.
Elgin property Iona has announced the appointment of Jean Nel and Gwen Marais to the viticultural and winemaking team, with effect from June 2026.
They move across from Cederberg where Nel has been head winemaker, including the Ghost Corner range, for the last seven years. Marais, largely responsible for the red wines, completed four vintages there.
Werner Muller, winemaker at Iona since 2011, departs in May.
