A bottle of the famed GS Cabernet 1966 has just been confirmed as the prize for the best wine overall in this year’s 10-Year-Old Wine Report. This is a wine that James Molesworth of influential US magazine Wine Spectator rated 95 points, unprecedented for a South African wine at the time, while respected UK critic Jancis Robinson judged the wine to be ‘perfect’ giving it a score of 20/20 when she tasted it. Highly sought after, a single bottle sold for R30 000 at the Strauss & Co. Fine Wine Auction in June last year. The prize is sponsored by Amorim Cork who will also re-cork if the winner so wishes.
The 10-Year-Old Wine Report focuses on wines from the 2010 vintage and the deadline for entry is Wednesday 5 February. For the rules in full and the entry form, CLICK HERE.
