Nedbank Cape Winemakers Guild Auction 2023 sales figures

Total sale amounted to R14 788 000 at the 39th Nedbank Cape Winemakers Guild Auction conducted by Strauss & Co this past Friday and Saturday, 1 792 cases (6 x 750ml) fetching an average price of R8 252 per case and an average price per bottle of R1 375. This compares to last year’s sales of R13 985 500 for 1 898 cases, average price per case being R7 369 (average price per bottle: R1 227).

There were a total of 96 successful bidders. 58% of sales went to South African bidders, with the balance of the wines going to overseas bidders, with 24% going to the UK, 3% to Denmark and 2% to the Netherlands. Single largest buyer was UK fine wine merchant Bordeaux Index – see here.

    How about that, Christian! The Hartenberg Cab that you top-scored among your favourites in the CWG Auction line-up prior to the sale was one of the most-in-demand wines when it went ‘under the hammer’, fetching up to R2666 a bottle.
