SA wine exports 2025: Volumes dip, value holds
By Christian Eedes, 26 January 2026

Overall, South African wine export volumes fell last year amid significant global pressures, though value showed resilience, which could be read as stronger market positioning. Total shipments reached 264 million litres, generating R9.8 billion (US$548.5 million), a 13.8% drop in volume and a 2.4% decline in value.
Packaged wine volumes fell 4.6% but held value, with gains in key markets including the UK (+4%), Canada (+3%) and Sweden (+1%). Exports to the USA were sharply affected by August 2025 tariffs, with packaged wine down 21% in volume and 23% in dollar value.
Africa now represents over 10% of total export value, with packaged wine rising 14% year-on-year.
