Piekenierskloof Chenin Blanc 2025

By , 26 January 2026

Piekenierskloof may be best known for Grenache, but Chenin Blanc is clearly at home here too. The top-rated wine in last year’s Old Vine Report, scoring 96, was Donkiesbaai Steen 2025 (R370), from local vineyards planted in 1986 and 1988.

Not in the same rarefied league but still highly appealing is the Piekenierskloof cellar’s standard-label 2025. Just 15% saw four months in older 300-litre barrels, leaving a pure, focused expression. Notes of flowers, herbs, pear, peach, citrus and a touch of flinty reduction lead to a palate of concentrated fruit, zippy acidity and a pithy finish (alc. 14%). At R150 a bottle, it offers good quality relative to price.

CE’s rating: 91/100.
