Significant excise tax increases proposed for alcohol

Government wants to address South Africa’s high alcohol consumption, the national treasury set to increase excise taxes on beer, spirits and wine – see here.
Non-profit industry organisation South Africa Wine fears that the increase in taxes will lead to economic hardship for producers and fuel the illicit alcohol trade – see relevant infographic here.
