Hi Alan, winemag.co.za was not involved in this year’s Standard Bank Chenin Blanc Top 10 Challenge and therefore we don’t know if the Darling Cellars Old Bush Vine Chenin Blanc 2016 was even entered.

What I would say is that while a lot of consumers understandably get frustrated that wine competition results don’t seem to be repeatable, it is actually not a fair expectation of the judges involved. Instead, results should be viewed as valid or not valid in the sense that wines which get recognition should match up to generally shared criteria of quality like complexity, balance and age-worthiness.

Christian, is there a reason why the Old Bush Vines chenin from Darling, winner of the Harold Eedes trophy among the Old Mutual awards, did not feature among the top ten – or have I missed something? alan
