This year’s white blends tasting to be reported on in the November issue of WINE magazine has attracted 131 submissions compared to 95 in 2009.

The panel is Carrie Adams of Johannesburg retailer Norman Goodfellows, Diemersdal winemaker Thys Louw, James Pietersen, beverage manager for Balducci’s and Belthazar restaurants, Cape Wine Master Meryl Weaver  and me.

Last year’s tasting produced two wines rated 5 Stars (namely Alvi’s Drift Premium Selection Chardonnay Viognier 2008 and Miles Mossop Saskia 2008) as well as 10 wines rated 4½ Stars and six 4 Stars. How will the likes of Cape Point Isliedh, Sadie Family Palladius and Verglegen White fare this year?
