Interesting takes as ever. I’d argue that Cinsault is way more relevant and has far more potential than Colombard. CE’s argument that they can be a more than decent alternative to over priced Pinot Noir is a valid one, personally I have had 2-3 Cinsaults that are as good as any Pinot I’ve tried. Maybe the best Cinsaults are not as polished as the best PN’s……maybe it warrants closer inspection by someone more qualified than me? I was slightly disappointed that the global and domestic decline in wine consumption wasn’t addressed in more detail…..it affects us all whether we like it or not. And as for Syrah being too “peppery”……..go figure! The vagaries of the SA wine consumer….!

Lately I had the privilege to enjoy some really nice Cinsaults.
To mention but a few: van Loggerenberg – Geronimo, Miles Mossop Chapter One, Darling Cellars Old Bush Vines Cinsaut ( in my opinion the best value for your buck) and lastly a new young wine maker , Chris Kruger, and his Viento Cinsault ( try this wine, you will be pleasantly surprised)
Lastly, what is the difference between Cinsaut and Cinsault?
