Hosted by Ex Animo Wine Co.’s David Clarke and Winemag.co.za editor Christian Eedes, it brings together two informed, independent voices with a clear sense of perspective.

I’m always fascinated by people who hate or clown on the annual Tim Atkin 95+ tasting. It just comes across as sour grapes.
I attend every year and get to taste 200+ of SA’s top wines while chatting with dozens of winemakers. I’m not aware of any other tasting in SA that comes close to this level of scale and access for the price.

I totally agree, Josua. I am unfortunately out the country each year when it happens otherwise I would definitely attend.
Out of interest, I tried to see how many 95+ wines were awarded in 2026 by WineMag just as a comparison as it certainly feels like there have been a lot but unfortunately the ratings haven’t been updated since Dec 2025 so it would be a long manual task.
Perhaps WineMag can offer proposals for how they would run such as event in less of a “circus” way? I would certainly be interested in attending if the format or concept was similar and if they feel they can offer it at a more subsidised price then even better.
