Allesverloren Shiraz 2019

By , 10 May 2023

Swartland property Allesverloren owned by the Malan family since 1872 tends to be a source of competently made but not necessarily inspired wines. The Shiraz 2019, however, is outstanding.

Matured for 12 months in in a combination of mainly older, mainly French oak barrels (but also a few new American oak barrels), the nose shows musk, red and black berries, fynbos and white pepper while the palate has a dense core of fruit, zippy acidity and fine tannins, the finish long and dry (alcohol: 13.74%). Youthful and energetic, it’s terrific quality relative to price at R170 a bottle.

CE’s rating: 93/100.
