Amnesty Red 2017
By Christian Eedes, 24 March 2020
Willie and Gavin Brand farm 11ha of vineyard between the towns of Vredendal and Klawer, 300km north from Cape Town, the resulting wines appearing under the Cape Rock Wines label. Amnesty Red 2017 is a blend of equal parts Shiraz, Grenache and Mourvèdre which offers unchallenging but likeable drinking as the manga-inspired label might suggest. On the nose, olive brine and white pepper sit alongside red fruit while the palate is juicy with soft tannins. Price: R150 a bottle.
CE’s rating: 88/100.
