Bellingham The Masterpiece Cape Blend 2023

The Masterpiece range of wines is the result of a collaboration between retailer Pick n Pay and Bellingham. Launched in 2020, each vintage bears the work of a different local artist on the label. Current release is the 2023, a Pinotage-led blend with Pinot Noir and Cinsault in support. The label was designed by 26-year=old art director and illustrator Sinenhlanhla Chauke (see more of his work here).

Such ventures can often be more about marketing than merit, but in this case, the contents hold up. The nose shows musk, floral perfume and dark berries while the palate is medium-bodied with bright acidity and powdery tannins. Thoughtfully assembled and broadly appealing.
