Beyerskloof Traildust 2017

Get your hands dirty.

Previous vintages of Traildust, the red blend from Stellenbosch cellar Beyerskloof that sees Pinotage combined with its parents Cinsault and Pinot Noir, have tended to be a little rustic but the 2017 is great fun.

Consisting of 47% Cinsaut, 30% Pinotage and 23% Pinot Noir, it was matured for 12 months in third-fill oak. The nose shows red and black cherry, plum, some floral fragrance and a hint of spice. The palate is juicy and fresh with soft, supple tannins and a gently savoury finish. An alcohol of 14.7% contributes to the overall generosity of the wine – not super-complex but most appealing, nevertheless. Price: R150 a bottle.

Editor’s rating: 88/100.
