SA’s answer to Vega Sicilia?

Bloemcool is Paarl cellar Fairview’s experimental label and to celebrate International Tempranillo Day which occurred on 9 November, a bottle of the Tinto Fino Tempranillo 2014 (Tinta Fino being the name for the variety in Spain’s Ribera del Duero).

Fermentation took place in open-top fermenters before maturation lasting 29 months in two new 225-litre French oak barrels. On the nose, black fruit, olive, earth, pleasant oak-derived notes and some maltiness. The palate meanwhile is rich, broad and very flavourful with moderate acidity smooth tannins. Impressive fruit integrity despite all that time in oak. Price: R450 a bottle.
