Boekenhoutskloof Syrah 2020

By , 5 May 2023

Grapes for the Boekenhoutskloof Syrah 2020 come from this operation’s two Swartland farms, namely Porseleinberg (88%) and Goldmine (12%). Winemaking involved 60% whole-bunch fermentation while maturation lasted 18 months in 2 500-litre foudre and 600-litre barrels.

Complex aromatics of red and black berries, violets, lavender, dried herbs, pepper and other spice precede a palate shows dense fruit, bright acidity and powdery tannins (alcohol: 14%). Really good fruit definition and structure, this has all the polish you would expect from Marc Kent and Gottfried Mocke. Price: R495 a bottle.

CE’s rating: 94/100.
