Boplaas Cape Tawny Reserve 1995
By Christian Eedes, 14 September 2016
A Colheita is an aged Tawny Port made with grapes from a single vintage and that’s the idea behind the Cape Tawny Reserve 1995 from Boplaas, which is sensational. A blend of 90% Tinta Barocca and 10% Touriga Nacional, it spent 17 years in cask. On the nose, there’s a hint of dried flowers before burnt orange, salted caramel, cinnamon and some nuttiness – all very lifted and compelling. The palate is silky in texture yet somehow still light and fresh, the fortification handled expertly. Available for sale at the Nederburg Auction 2016.
