Boschendal “330” 2013
By Christian Eedes, 17 September 2015
To commemorate the establishment of Groot Drakenstein property Boschendal in 1685, a new Bordeaux-style red blend from the 2013 vintage called “330”.
It’s a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Petit Verdot and 10% Malbec, matured for 18 months in French oak, 40% new and it’s not what I expected being remarkably understated and sophisticated.
Red and black fruit, some fynbos and well-judged oak. Medium-bodied with fresh acidity and fine tannins. Alcohol by volume sneaks in at under 14%, 13.92% to be precise. Price: R289 a bottle.
Winemag rating: 91/100.
