Boschkloof Epilogue Syrah 2024
By Christian Eedes, 3 April 2026

60% underwent whole-bunch fermentation before maturing in concrete, while the remaining 40% was destemmed and matured in 400-litre barrels, 100% new. Borman says he likes to “build” Epilogue in the cellar, and perhaps that is so, but this vintage feels effortless and intuitive.
The nose is strikingly demonstrative – violets, red and black berries, orange, a certain leafiness rather than herbaceousness, pepper, the merest brush of vanilla. The palate has both depth and breadth – dense fruit, fresh acidity and fine-grained tannins. It’s substantial yet poised – composed, layered, unshowy. Whereas other vintages of this wine can feel slightly too ostentatious, this feels complete, multi-faceted and very pleasing to the senses. Alc: 13.9%.

Thanks for the note Christian. A consistently great wine . I think my favourite Cape Syrah with Porseleinberg .

Hi Christian, how does this compare with the 21 vintage, which also got 98 points?
Christian Eedes | 6 April 2026
Hi Josua, the 2024 is remarkably composed and understated, but perhaps a touch more substantial than the 2021. As a collector, I’d want both in the cellar.

I am one of the lucky few who has been able to get hold of an allocation of this wine over the last few years. It has been consistently good over the vintages and can stand tall with SA’s great wines.

I too am one of the lucky ones and have a full house of all the last five years vintages. Reneen is a modest man, very humble and all the wines, including the kottabos grenache Syrah are outstanding exemplars of the wine-makers craft, and understanding the terroir.

And the price of the 2024 Epilogue (Shiraz) from Boschkloof? R900pb?
Christian Eedes | 6 April 2026
Hi Mike, Correct – my mistake for not including this.
