Boschkloof Syrah 2020

By , 26 September 2022

While the top-end Syrah known as Epilogue from Polkadraai Hills property Boschkloof always feels like a wine of importance (review of the 2020 vintage here) and therefore quite demanding, the standard label has an accessibility about it without being simple or unconvincing.

Matured for 14 months in 225-litre barrels, of which some 10% were new, the nose shows top notes of violet-like perfume and rosemary before red and black berries, white pepper and spice while the palate has pure fruit and good vibrancy, the tannins very fine. Not without weight (alcohol is 14%) but beautifully balanced. Price: R255 a bottle.

CE’s rating: 93/100.
