The 2024 standard-label Syrah from Boschkloof delivers exceptional quality – not just for its price of R290, but full stop. Matured for 10 months in 225-litre barrels, of which 10% were new, the nose shows red and black berries, olive, violets, fynbos and pepper. The palate is defined by vivid fruit expression, bright acidity and fine tannins, which is not to say it lacks grip. Intensely flavoured, it has presence without being ponderous or over-bearing (alc: 13.5%). An immaculately made wine as you might expect from Reenen Borman, the man behind the seminal Epilogue.
