Bosman Family Vineyards Erfenis 2017

By , 3 October 2022

Whereas the 2016 vintage of Erfenis from Bosman Family Vineyards in Wellington was a seven-way blend with Pinotage in the lead, the 2017 is notably different, consisting of 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Cinsault and 20% Nero D’Avola, each component matured separately for 16 months before being blended and returned to barrel for another six months, mainly older oak used.

The nose shows baked plums, cherry, cassis, vanilla, spice and a touch of malt while the palate has nice fruit integrity but is already quite mellow and comforting. It’s a slow burner of a wine – idiosyncratic but increasingly enjoyable with each subsequent glass. Price: R495 a bottle.

CE’s rating: 92/100.
