Bouchard Finlayson Hannibal 2015

A class alone.

Hannibal from Hemel-en-Aarde Valley property Bouchard Finlayson is a sort of Tuscany-Burgundy-Piedmont-Rhône mash-up which arguably shouln’t work but does. The 2015 is a blend of 46% Sangiovese, 18% Pinot Noir, 16% Nebbiolo, 11% Shiraz, 5% Barbera and  4% Mourvèdre matured for 16 months in French oak, 22% new.

The nose shows a herbal top note before red and black fruit plus some smokiness and some meatiness. The palate shows dense fruit and fresh acidity to go with supple and lightly grippy tannins. An exotic blend which comes together for good making for an exciting drinking experience. Wine Cellar price: R305 a bottle.

Editor’s rating: 92/100.
