From a certified single vineyard in the region of Breedekloof, this is Bruce Jack’s top-end version of Pinotage, selling for R573 a bottle. Inky in colour, the nose shows black cherry, floral perfume, chocolate and spice. The palate is polished and plush with seemingly sweet fruit offset by bright acidity, the texture smooth. With an alcohol of 15% and matured for 24 months in mostly older oak, this is Pinotage conceived to be as rich and luxuriant as possible.
Names and labels aren’t everything, but I think it is fair to suggest that ‘Bruce Jack Heritage Collection Flag of Truce Pinotage 2022’ will certainly be more difficult to remember than many others.
