Cape of Good Hope Altima Sauvignon Blanc 2023

By , 24 August 2023

The vineyards that supply grapes for the Altima Sauvignon Blanc under the Cape of Good Hope (part of the Anthonij Rupert Wyne portfolio) are located in Elandskloof, a valley situated north of Villiersdorp at approximately 700m above sea level  and surrounded by mountains.

Distinctly cool growing conditions result in fruit with higher natural acidities lower pH levels and that certainly applies to the 2023 vintage – TA is 7.2g/l and pH 3.07 while alcohol is 13% and RS is 3.7g/l.

The nose currently shows peach, tangerine, hay and potpourri while the palate has good fruit expression, bright acidity and a little grip to the finish. It’s terrifically energetic and not short of detail at this early stage of its life although should only become more complex in time to come. Price: R155 a bottle.

CE’s rating: 93/100.
