Cederberg Shiraz 2007

By , 14 September 2010

DSC01488Cederberg Shiraz 2007 is a pretty dramatic glass of wine. It has a forthcoming nose of red and black berries as well as plenty of spice. The palate is sweet, rich and full with concentrated fruit and smooth tannins. It’s made in an unashamedly modern idiom: alcohol by volume 14.5%, residual sugar 3.1g/l, 15 months in oak (92% French, 8% American), of which 70% was new. If you’re looking for weight and power, then this delivers and then some.

Price of standard-release 2007: R130 a bottle. Average price of Teen die Hoog Shiraz 2007, a selection of three new French barrels as sold at last year’s CWG Auction: nearly R500 a bottle. Go figure.
