Constantia Royale Sauvignon Blanc 2016

Sun kissed.

Constantia Royale is the name given to the Sauvignon Blanc off vineyards grown on the small Constantia property known as Nova Zonnestraal, Roger Burton previously of Tierhoek in Piekenierskloof the winemaker.

Burton says that in 2016 he implemented new practices in the vineyard – a more open canopy – to facilitate “more fruitiness” and the wine certainly does appear less “green” than the maiden 2015 (see here). On the nose, a hint of reduction before white peach, granadilla and pineapple. The palate displays generous fruit and acidity that’s fresh but not as searing as some examples of this variety can be. Price: R83 a bottle.

#WinemagRating: 89/100.
