Dalla Cia Teano 2014

Teano is the renowned Giorgio Dalla Cia’s version of a Super Tuscan, the wine a blend of Bordeaux varieties plus Sangiovese. The 2014, matured for 24 months in 100% new 300-litre barrels, is luxuriously styled and has the price tag to match, selling for R869 a bottle on Port2Port.
The nose shows red and black fruit, earth, spice and a hint of cigar box while the palate is rich and smooth textured but also possess good freshness, the finish gently savoury. It will make a lot of well-heeled punters very happy.
Editor’s rating: 91/100.

Good day
I have a Teano Dalla CIA 2014 and I am not sure if this will be a valuable bottle to keep as a collection piece?

Thanks, Tim! I’ll have to give the Nederburg a try some time. And somehow I had forgotten about Hannibal, which I had a bottle of a few years back!

In fact, Joe, there are a few blends with Sangiovese. The Nederburg Ingenuity Red Italian Blend is one, and not dissimilar to Teano in ambition and orientation, I’d say: big, bold, ripe, etc. Bouchard Finlayson’s Hannibal is another (with sangiovese the largest component, along with Italian and French non-Bordeaux varieties), and a bit closer to my own tastes in these things!

Which SA reds do you think have the most similar character to this wine? (I can’t think of any SA red blends that include sangiovese, so I imagine they’d probably have to be “Cape Blends”, or Bordeaux Blends.)
