De Trafford Chenin Blanc 2019

By , 26 May 2021

The Chenin Blanc 2019 from De Trafford is something of a Stellenbosch mash-up featuring grapes from two blocks in Bottelary and a further two from the Helderberg, one on Keermont and the other on Post House. In the cellar, fermentation occurred spontaneously before maturation lasting 10 months in barrels of various sizes, 10% new.

The nose shows peach, nectarine and naartjie along with ginger and other spice as well as a little earthiness while the palate has good fruit concentration and tangy acidity before a savoury, slightly bitter finish. Rich and satisfying. Price: R280 a bottle.

CE’s rating: 93/100.
