The Breede River Valley is Muscadel country and the Worcester cellar De Wet have a fine example in the form of their Red 2021 (price: R85 per 500ml bottle).
The aromatics are alluring with top notes of potpourri and Turkish Delight before sultana, apricot, toffee and spice while the palate is well balanced – thick and creamy in texture but not listless thanks to bright acidity, the finish gently savoury. Alcohol: 17.5%.
