Grapes from a 1985 certified heritage vineyard of Rielsing, Edelspatz from Delheim in Stellenbosch is always something special. The 2020 saw various pickings, then fermented and matured for nine months. The nose shows dried peach and apricot, orange, honey and classic botrytis-induced mushroom. The palate has massive fruit concentration – super-rich, round and thick-textured before a big acidity kicks in and stops this wine from becoming too unctuous or cloying, the finish gently savoury. Price: R395 per bottle.
