Dornier Siren Syrah 2016

Seductive.

The Siren Syrah 2015 from Dornier was one of the finds of last year (see here) so what of the follow-up 2016? Grapes from a particular Simonsberg vineyard, maturation lasted 12 months in mainly older oak. On the nose, some floral fragrance before red and black fruit plus some pepper. The palate is plush in the best sense – plenty of ripe fruit, quite thick textured but super-flavourful (alcohol: 14.5%). Perhaps not quite as arresting as the 2015 but more than enough going on that this is a cuvée to keep an eye on. Price: TBC.

Editor’s rating: 92/100.
