Du Toitskloof Old Vine Sauvignon Blanc 2022
By Christian Eedes, 23 June 2023
Grapes for the Old Vine Sauvignon Blanc 2002 (price: R190 a bottle) from Breedekloof cellar Du Toitskloof come from a certified heritage block planted in 1985, fermentation occurring in a combination of new French oak barrels and stainless-steel tanks, while time on the lees lasted 100 days.
The result is hugely characterful. Naartjie, orange, honey, spice and a touch of “wet wool” on the nose precede a palate that is rich, broad and full of flavour, tangy acidity lending balance. Alc: 13.13%.
CE’s rating: 93/100.
