Power packed.
Du Toitskloof in Rawsonville, which produces some 700 000 cases of own-label wine a year, recently launched a top-end range of wines under the Quest label, the stand-out wine among the current releases being the Rhône Blend 2012 (R160 a bottle).
Consisting of 70% Shiraz and 30% Mourvèdre sourced from various vineyards in the Western Cape, the wine underwent maturation of 24 months in French oak, 100% new. On the nose, red and black fruit, fynbos, vanilla and spice. The palate is power-packed and smooth textured (the alcohol is 14.85%) but not entirely short of freshness. It pulls no punches.
