Eagles’ Nest Shiraz 2015

Soaring.
While the Shiraz from Constantia property Eagles’ Nest could hardly be described as new-wave, it always impresses. In the case of the current-release 2015, grapes were de-stalked before crushing and maturation lasted 18 months in French oak, 40% new.
The nose is very expressive with notes of red and black fruit, pepper and spice, smoked meat plus a little vanilla and incense. The palate has lovely fruit expression, lemon-like acidity and fine tannins which combine to give it a particular vinosity (alcohol: 14%). It’s not as stark or dramatic as the best examples from the Swartland but it is very, very convincing. Price: R275 a bottle.
