Electric Mud Grenache 2025

Jean Smit of Damascene and Moya Meaker has launched a new wine, a Grenache called Electric Mud (price: R350) from a Piekenierskloof vineyard planted in 1966 on its own roots and previously utilised by the late Jan Boland Coetzee of Vriesenhof.
Winemaking involved 60% whole-bunch fermentation before seven months’ maturation in concrete. The nose is complex with a top note of musk before pomegranate, cherry, strawberry, fynbos and spice. The palate is pure and finely delineated with lively acidity and grippy tannins, the finish super-long and savoury. Poised and precise, it’s possesses real authority without excess. Alc: 13%.
